The A3 8P1 (3-door hatch) is Audi's small car leader that has enjoyed deep and genuine popularity outside North America since 1996. The 8L holds the record as the longest running car model that Audi has ever produced without changes. Even after the introduction of the 8P model in Europe in 2003, Brazil continued to manufacture the overlapping A3 model until 2006 through Audi Senna - their South American manufacturing partner.

There are a number of factors (including production facilities and geography) that make modifying this car an exercise in due diligence. Thankfully, the identification and fitment issue was helped along enormously in 2005 with Audi's introduction of a worldwide standard that included the introduction of the Audi A3 5-door "Sportback" in North American markets.
