The supercar pictured above (as tuned and modified by Rieger) is the Series 8 BMW manufactured for a period of ten years - not including 4 years spent in development. The first of these showed up at Frankfurt in September 1989 while the last BMW 8 Series car was produced in May of 1999 - some thirty thousand built in total. Whether it carried the BMW 840 (V8) or BMW 850 (W12) designation the Series 8 E31 was the most technically advanced machine of its time - from its CAD (computer aided design) beginnings to the world’s first drive-by-wire innovation. Resident German car expert at LLTeK (the “Baron” as he is affectionately referred to) says the interior of the 840 E31 (particularly the chrome seat scuff protectors) was the best and most solid he has ever seen.
Rumours suggest a 4-door BMW 8 Series is in the works this year or next and.... knowing Rieger - we can expect body kit styling if and when there is a revival of the line.
