This high performance LED design is super bright. The LED housing is curved and is 20 inches long. It has a cosmetic lower section and as a device it's very large at 20 x 5 x 2.2 inches high. When our designers developed their world famous A8 D3 Pre-Facelift and Facelift RS conversion and upgrade bumpers, they used the Audi S6 LEDs as the focal point in the design. With some clever styling, the designers smoothly integrated the LEDs into their bumper.
Installing the LEDs
There is a left and right version of the LED. The product can only install one way in the bumper. Generally speaking LLTek will pre-install the LED in your purchased bumper whether the bumper ships painted or unpainted. If the bumper ships unpainted, the local painter/installer will easily see how the LED is installed. He then uninstalls the LED part knowing it will be easy to re-install because "seeing is understanding".
Electrical connections Each LED comes with 3 wires and connection is rather simple. Generally we connect the hot (red) wire to power ignition. This means when the car is started, power will flow. The black wire is the ground (battery ground is preferable). Although power draw is very low at just over half an amp, an inline fuse on the red wire is recommended. The blue wire is the mystery wire. We recommend you do not connect this wire. Either cut it off or wrap it up and stuff it in a corner. If you want to use it, here is how it works: The blue wire controls an automatic internal LED turn-off switch. In other words, when the white wire circuit receives 12 volts it will turn off the LED automatically. For instance, you could wire the white up to the low beam input wire on the 12 volt line (never after the HID ballast). Therefore turning on your headlight will turn off the LED. Or wire it to a turn signal and that input will turn off the LED. In Europe this is the way a DRL must function.
The wiring diagram shows you how to connect the wires including the blue mystery wire should you choose to use it. Generally the auto-off function is not used in North America.
How and where do I connect? There are infinite ways to connect your newly installed headlight LEDs. Here is what we like best. Run the red power wire to hot ignition. This means when you start the car, power flows to the LED. When the motor is off, the LEDs go off. Yes, black wire must be connected to a ground (battery ground is always best). Yes, do not forget the fuse on the red wire. You can install an interrupt switch on the red power wire if you want. Alternatively you can hook into your fog light circuit, your current daytime lights (if you have) or any other contactable circuit. Just make sure that when the motor is turned off, power to the LED is interrupted.
